WORK MOTIVATION
Where does your effort actually come from? External rewards, pride, alignment with your identity, or inherent enjoyment? Matters because intrinsically-motivated people burn out dramatically less.
The science: Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) is one of the most studied motivation frameworks in psychology. It describes a spectrum from externally-controlled motivation (rewards, pressure) to intrinsically-driven motivation (inherent enjoyment). The more self-determined your motivation, the better your long-term engagement and wellbeing.
